CDE Lawsuit Affects Release of Student Data

CDE Lawsuit Affects Release of Student Data

A recent lawsuit against the California Department of Education (CDE) is impacting all school districts across the state.  As part of the lawsuit, CDE has been ordered by the court to provide to the court, the parties, their attorneys and consultants, with personally identifiable information.  The data includes personally identifiable information of children, including children with disabilities, children who requested an assessment or who were assessed for special education eligibility, and children who are attending, or who have attended, a California school at any time since January 1, 2008.

However, parents or guardians of students are able to object to the disclosure of their student’s information by submitting an objection to the court.  Parents can find more information regarding this lawsuit and how to object to the disclosure of their student’s information at the following website:

To obtain the Objection to Disclosure Form please go to:  Note that the deadline to submit an objection to the court is April 1, 2016

Common Core Parent & Family Resources

The Common Core State Standards are important because they will help all children – no matter who they are – learn the same skills. They create clear expectations for what your child should know and be able to do in key areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening, language and mathematics. If you know what these expectations are, then you can work with the teacher and help your child prepare.

Visit the EngageNY Website for additional Parent & Family Resources: Click Here
